О программе

The Baltic region plays a significant part in the political, economic and cultural life of both Europe and the world. Its countries actively develop international relations and business opportunities, some of them with Russia. However, the numbers of experts, who can safeguard cross-cultural communication, is alarmingly low. «Baltica: Languages, Culture, and International Relations», offered by Immanuel Kant BFU, is an extraordinary programme for the Russian educational system. It imparts a broad spectrum of linguistic, linguacultural, and socio-cultural skills, which can advance intercultural communication in the Baltic region. The course is designed for students with a C1 level of English, and it envisions the possibility of growing these skills to a C2 level. As a second language, our master's students can choose either Polish or German and start from the basics. If students already have a grasp of either of these languages, then an individual learning plan will be offered. During the course, our master's students receive a key understanding of foreign languages, which they perfect through practice. They study the history and culture of Baltic countries, business etiquette, international law, conflict theory, and cross-cultural communication. The programme is taught in English.

Уникальность образовательной программы

The unique location of Immanuel Kant BFU makes it part of a wide network of universities. These partner connections in the Baltic create several expansive opportunities for students. Such events include academic exchanges, participation in international and local summer schools, and large-scale research internships. Graduates can also choose to travel abroad to deepen their understanding of their country of choice's language and culture. Additionally, native English speakers teach a number of courses, allowing for a steady grasp of the English language and its standout features.

Master's Degree in Linguistics
Studying linguistics at IKBFU was amazing! I really don't have the words to express how perfectly everything fit together: our group, the subjects, the teachers— especially the teachers! Because, well, it's all about them. They are the best! Just exceptional. Real pros! And then when you see the shining eyes of people who genuinely love what they do, you can't help but look up to them.

I remember that as students we particularly enjoyed thematic seminars, conferences, and practising written, simultaneous and consecutive translation. As well as extracurricular activities, for example, Translator's Day or Halloween...

Of course, I could talk about my student life days indefinitely, but I think I will finish using Dumbledore's words: «Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.» If you want knowledge in linguistics, you will always get it; if you set a goal, you will achieve results, and teachers will help you.

Master's Degree in Linguistics
Studying within the «Interpretation» master's course was a game-changer for me. I didn't expect such a high concentration of professional, practising translators as teachers! During two years, we undertook a profound honing of our translation skills and an internship with Yves Gambier (a pioneer researcher in the latest translation studies). My thanks to the university: 100% of my translation agency employs BFU graduates and 80% of them have master's degrees in linguistics

Master's Degree in Linguistics
Primarily, my master's in Audiovisual Translation was an excellent opportunity to learn from the experiences of actual professionals in the field. Even while studying for a bachelor's degree in linguistics, I knew that I was incredibly lucky because absolutely all our teachers were (and are!) practicing translators! It was thanks to them that I first realized how exciting the translation process can be. Through my enrolment in the master's Audiovisual Translation programme, I had the opportunity to become proficient in an incredibly interesting sphere of work, meet professionals in my field, and even translate for an actual film festival!
