The course is taught for more than two thousand Bachelor and Specialist students. The intensive course is devoted to the basics of rationality and cognitive biases. The students learn to apply the new skills to practical purposes like public speaking and to various difficulties encountered in daily life.
Vladas Povilaitis, senior professor of the course: |
The critical thinking course is quite different from what usual philosophy classes offer. We want to give out students the tools that they will use to help the university develop and grow. We want them to ask themselves, what they expect from education, what goals professional goals they seek and whether the university can help them with that. |
Dmitry Polyanskiy, associate professor: |
The importance of critical thinking is so obvious that I see no reason to reiterate it again. It is worth noting that both students and professor are very enthusiastic about the new course. The program is already a success, since there are many other Russian universities taking part in it. |
