Researcher from IKBFU Achieves Breakthrough in Diagnostics of Immune System

In January 2019, a famous scientific journal Frontiers in Physiology published an article, which authors are the researchers from Russia and their foreign colleagues. One of the co-authors is Prof. Dr Andei Prodeus, the researcher of the Institute of Medicine of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and the head of the Department for Allergology and Immunology of the Higher Medical School.

It is a well-known fact that the state of the immune system determines the health condition. However, it is often hard to find out whether the condition of the immune system is fine or bad. Though, it can be very helpful to receive this information, as there is a high risk of getting infectious and even oncological diseases when the immune system is suppressed. Recently, the Russian scientists have achieved a significant breakthrough in diagnostics of the immune system.

Prof. Dr Andei Prodeus, the researcher of the Institute of Medicine (IKBFU):

We have created unique tests for diagnosis of the immune system. They can detect the presence and absence of certain markers and their quantity. Moreover, these tests are cheap (450-500 rubles) and easy to get. They can take place in any laboratory, which has basic equipment for genetic analysis or polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The effectiveness of our diagnosis method is very high. Screening test is not a panacea but it helps to prevent diseases long before they strike. It is also noteworthy that the Kaliningrad Region will be the first to participate in the programme of the newborn immunodeficiency screening.
