In the new academic year, 13 students from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University are undertaking placements at partner universities in China. The academic exchange programme includes Northwest Normal University, Yantai University, Gannan Normal University, Ocean University of China, and Huaihua University.
Eleven students from the fields of education and linguistics are enrolled on the "Chinese Language" programme. Their main objective is to improve their language proficiency and gain ongoing communication practice in a Chinese‑speaking environment. A further two IKBFU students are studying on the "Physical Education" programme at Ocean University of China.
A highlight of the semester was the launch of collaboration with Gannan Normal University. The partnership agreement was signed in June 2026, and two IKBFU students have already become the first participants in the exchange programme, gaining an opportunity to integrate into the international student community and gain an insider's perspective on China's educational and cultural environment.
In addition, IKBFU students took part in the competitive selection process for a scholarship programme run by the Government of the People's Republic of China and travelled to China for a one‑year placement. Sofya Danilova is studying at Yantai University, Alexandra Polikarpova at Ocean University of China, and Ksenia Sorokina at Nanjing University. Participation in this programme involves in‑depth study of the language and specialist subjects throughout the full academic year.
A record number of exchange students from partner universities in China — 17 in total — are expected this semester. Among the incoming students are two from Gannan Normal University, a new partner of IKBFU. The exchange students will be studying on programmes in Russian as a Foreign Language and Physical Education.
The university wishes the students every success in their studies, enriching academic experiences, and new professional contacts. May the autumn term in China prove to be a meaningful and unforgettable stage in their education.
Albina Tsalkina, Third‑Year Student:
The lecturers at Northwest Normal University are really lovely; the lessons are interesting, and they explain things clearly and in a way that's easy to understand. We've already made friends with the other international students, and we play basketball together after classes. It's an interesting life experience, and I'm grateful to the university for this opportunity.
Alexandra Polikarpova, Fourth‑Year Student:
I applied for a grant from the Government of the People's Republic of China — it wasn't easy, but the effort was well worth it. Ocean University of China offers a wealth of activities for international students and a high standard of teaching. I'm grateful to IKBFU for providing us with such an opportunity.
