From 19th to 28th of June, nine university professors from Namibia and Zimbabwe are taking part in the intensive “Russian as a Foreign Language for Science, Education, Culture” course at IKBFU.
The programme combines academic training with sightseeing tours of Kaliningrad and the Baltic coast, workshops, and exploring the largest higher education institution in the North-West of Russia — the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
The African delegation toured the “Fabrika” Science & Technology Park, where they explored cutting-edge advancements in biomedicine, optics, nanomaterials, and artificial intelligence. In the historical building on Universitetskaya Street the guests were shown rare folios. In the Studhouse the educators were given a guided tour and told about the vibrant extracurricular life of the university — the building houses 66 active student communities and modern facilities dedicated to sports, creativity, and social engagement.
They received an overview of Russian academic leadership initiatives and the higher education system in the Russian Federation, with a focus on a pilot reform project in which IKBFU is involved.
African educators shared their impressions of IKBFU and Kaliningrad:
Participation in this project has been an invaluable opportunity to improve my Russian and immerse myself in the culture. Kaliningrad’s beauty and the hospitality of its people have left a lasting impression on me. |

Having studied in Russia years ago, it is wonderful to return now as an academic. The technological advancements at the “Fabrika” are particularly impressive. |

The “Fabrika” features many fascinating developments, ideas, and scientific fields that captivate my interest as a biologist. |
