On December 17, a delegation of foreign correspondents from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, and Vietnam visited IKBFU.
Daria Gerber, Director of the International Office, gave a presentation on the history of the University, its mission, key educational programmes, international projects.
Daria Gerber, Director of the International Office: |
More than 1400 international students from over 50 countries are currently enrolled at the IKBFU. The University has ties with almost two hundred partner universities and organisations all over the world. IKBFU has everything necessary for living, studying, and improving personally. We evolve, prioritising comfort, safety and quality of education. |
Olga Usmanova, Acting Vice-Rector for Infrastructural Development commented on the largest construction site in the region — the Kantiana Neocampus, established within the framework of the "Science and Universities" national project. The campus is currently 43% ready; the dormitories will be opened for students in 2025, the full campus — in 2025.

A total of 17 such campuses are under construction in Russia. Our project is quite different from them. Most campuses have opted for a high-tech style, with a plethora of glass and concrete; the Kantiana corresponds to the unique atmosphere of Russia's westernmost region and its unique history. It was important to take into account the city’s architectural blend of different epochs and styles, make the complex low-rise and cosy, and mark clear boundaries for the comfort of the students. The project contains elements of already existing buildings of the University. For example, the new building of the Higher School of Philosophy and Social Sciences has a clock tower, like the building on Chernyshevskogo St., as well as a gallery, like the historical building on Universitetskaya St. |
The Neocampus will combine historical and modern architecture. The university puts great emphasis on the facilities and scientific equipment.

The most technologically advanced building will be the Biomed building, where doctors, biologists, bioengineers will study and engage in scientific research, with one billion roubles (80% of the total amount of funding for scientific equipment) allocated for it. |
The delegation inspected the scale model of the Kantiana campus, as well as a separate display of the library. This autumn the project received the "Golden Trezzini" international architectural award.
Indira Asanova, Journalist from Kazakhstan: |
This is not my first time in Kaliningrad, but it was the first time I visited this wonderful university. The buildings are incredible. This is very important for students choosing a university. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of international students, which speaks to the quality of education. A lot of students come from my country, Kazakhstan — 196 people. This is quite a lot for a regional university. IKBFU has 11 cooperation agreements with reputable universities of my country. To be honest, I want to study here myself! |
Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, a Vietnamese journalist, noted the need to develop partnerships not only in economy but also in education.
Kaliningrad has captivated me with its history and architecture. I am very impressed by the University and its Neocampus project. Russian education is valued in Vietnam, so it is important for us to tell our audience about Russian universities. |
The visit of foreign journalists to the largest University in the region took place as part of a press tour of the Kaliningrad region. The delegation is scheduled to meet with the governor of the region Alexey Besprozvannykh.
