The Synchrotron LIKE complex allows scientists to conduct experiments, create and validate new-generation optical devices under laboratory conditions. With this device, researchers learn something useful about the atomic structure of an object by the way radiation scatters on the object. One of the clearest examples is drugs. They need to be tested to see how a substance reacts to temperature, whether it changes its structure. In simple words: will the pill work. Another example: modern materials used, for example, in batteries and accumulators.
The achievements of Kaliningrad scientists are in demand and recognized not only in the scientific community, but also among industrial enterprises. For example, the Fakel experimental design bureau has shown great interest in the methods used in the X-ray optics laboratory. In addition, the scientific group on creation of new generation optics successfully fulfills orders of Rosnano and other large customers.
The Laboratory of X-Ray Optics with the Synchrotron LIKE installation is the heart of the Scientific and Technological Park "Fabrika", a subject of great pride for scientists of the Kant Baltic Federal University and the basis for the development of a new generation of X-Ray optics, which received international recognition and confirmed the status of Russia as one of the world leaders in the field of optics and photonics. And the newly assembled and being tested charged particle gas pedal has already attracted the attention of scientists from laboratories all over the country.
