On 12 June, three students from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University — Yulia Balandina and Ilya Bushuev (Higher School of Business and Entrepreneurship) and Yan Akhmetzyanov (Higher School of Philosophy, History and Social Sciences) — took part in the 14th International Academic Conference 'EKONBIZ 2026,' held at the University of East Sarajevo in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The theme of this year's conference was 'Economics in an Era of Uncertainty and Innovation.' Yulia Balandina attended in person and delivered a presentation entitled 'The Role of Human Capital in the Age of Artificial Intelligence Development.'
The forum brought together researchers from 15 countries across the Balkan region, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. The conference was co‑organised by leading universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Portugal, and China, as well as Saint Petersburg State University.
Yulia Balandina, IKBFU Student:
Taking part in the EKONBIZ conference at the University of East Sarajevo was a genuinely inspiring experience — I had the chance to present my research to an international academic audience, which was both exciting and rewarding. The discussions with colleagues from different countries gave me valuable feedback and fresh perspectives, and I returned home with plenty of new ideas for my future works.
Daria Gerber, Director of the International Office:
Our partnership with the University of East Sarajevo is still at an early stage — we signed a Memorandum of Understanding back in December 2025 — and we are thrilled that the first tangible outcome has been so positive. This is precisely the kind of result that international academic cooperation is meant to achieve: a young researcher gains exposure to a truly global audience, makes meaningful professional contacts, and comes back energised. We are confident that Yulia's experience marks a promising start for our continued collaboration with our partner university.
