Scientists from the Astrophysics Laboratory at IKBFU will develop a mathematical model that enables evaluation of the wind energy potential of the Kaliningrad region. The parameters of the atmospheric boundary layer and the terrain features of the region will be factored into the model. Model deployment on the “Astromodel Research” platform will provide remote access for adjusting the settings of simulation parameters, monitoring progress, and retrieving results through a web user interface. The research is being conducted as part of the “Priority 2030“, strategic project on geopolitical security.
According to IKBFU experts, the Kaliningrad region has significant wind energy potential due to its geographical location near the sea, mild climate and adequate average annual wind speeds. On the other hand, energy security and the need of developing renewable energy technologies are crucial geopolitical challenges.
In the Astrophysics Laboratory there is an experience in creating mathematical models of various celestial bodies, such as nebulae or binary stars. However, the processes in Earth's atmosphere are described by the same equations as the gas dynamics of distant stars. Our team therefore possesses all the necessary tools to model the wind energy potential of our region, |
said Aleksei Baigashov, Junior Researcher at the IKBFU Astrophysics Laboratory. |
The computing cluster, which is going to be deployed on the Kantiana campus as part of the national project “Youth and Children”, will increase the accuracy and efficiency of the service. With its assistance you can simulate a variety of processes and phenomena, from practical engineering tasks to fundamental research in physics, biology and economics.
The more accurate our calculations need to be, the more computational resources we require. The introduction of a powerful computing cluster at our university will greatly enhance the precision and speed of wind energy potential modeling for the Kaliningrad region, |
the researcher emphasized. |
This research is being conducted as part of the “Decade of Science and Technology“ in Russia.
