The IKBFU International Office hosted a Maslenitsa or Butter Week celebration bringing together international students for an immersive experience of Russian history, culture and traditions. The festivities featured lively games that tested students’ agility and coordination—flipping pancakes in frying pans, showcasing their marksmanship, and even performing chastushkas, the short witty folk couplets.
The main dish on the festive table was, of course, blini served with a variety of traditional toppings.

Before today, I had never heard of Maslenitsa. One of the highlights was a game where we had to flip an artificial pancake in a frying pan multiple times. And after all the fun, we got to enjoy some amazing blini and other treats. No one left hungry, that’s for sure. The International Office always knows how to bring people together! |
Denis Cherezov, IKBFU Student (Uzbekistan): |
What I loved most was how the whole event made you feel the atmosphere of the holiday. The decorations, the contests, the traditions—it all made me see things from a new perspective. I did realize, though, that singing chastushkas might not be my strong suit! |
IKBFU extends its warmest wishes to everyone for Maslenitsa and the arrival of spring!!
