On 17 October IKBFU Astronomical Community observed a supermoon. Alexey Baigashov, head of the community, notes that today's moon is about 12 percent larger than usual.

A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest to Earth. The Moon's orbit is not actually circular, but an elliptical with the Earth at one focus. As such the Moon is just a little closer and a little further away from the Earth. This point is called perigee and apogee, respectively. Supermoons are quite common and may appear every year or every few years. |
The photos of the Moon were taken with a 3D-printed telescope.
