The Kantiana campus is entering its final phase, with construction now 90 per cent complete. Façade work is being finalised, interior finishing is progressing across research and educational facilities, and the conference complex is taking shape. Furniture and equipment deliveries are ongoing, while landscaping is transforming the surrounding grounds.
One of the project's most ambitious engineering challenges is currently being tackled on the building that will house the Higher School of Philosophy and Social Sciences: a translucent dome with a surface area of over 1,400 square metres. The structure will consist of 536 double‑glazed panels, mounted on a metal frame weighing some 240 tonnes. The design incorporates a modern self‑supporting spatial system that combines high load‑bearing capacity with low dead weight and striking architectural expression. The result is a design that evenly distributes weight across the building while creating a bright, airy interior.
The campus is being delivered in stages. In 2024, the first two buildings were completed — one serving as a multifunctional centre for staff and students, the other as a venue for open lectures and events. A major milestone followed in January 2026, when a student accommodation complex with 2,500 beds was officially opened during a video conference with President Vladimir Putin on Russian Students' Day.
Construction of the remaining key facilities is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 — the three "Biomed" teaching blocks, the Institute of High Technologies, and the Higher School of Philosophy and Social Sciences.
| Maxim Demin, IKBFU Rector: |
| Kantiana is a hub that attracts intellectual elites. We are creating an environment where talented students, young academics, and established researchers will be able not only to acquire knowledge but also to generate new ideas, launch projects, and transform the face of science and education in the region. The campus will become a growth hub for the entire Kaliningrad Region and strengthen IKBFU's position as one of the country's leading universities. |
