Frosts, coming after several days of practically summer heat, can be very harmful to our plants. We are particularly concerned about the stone fruit plants, such as apples, cherries, peaches, and apricots. They have fully blossomed, but it is too cold for pollinators to emerge. There are practically no bees or bumble bees in the garden now. For other plants, the hazard is increased by day-night temperature fluctuations. Still, we hope that 140 million years of evolution will help our flowering plants to survive the changing climate. |
