As part of the 4th Forum of Personal Potential Development Centers, a meeting was held at Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (IKBFU) between the university’s rector and representatives of Beijing Normal University (BNU). The Chinese delegation included Tao Zhan, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, and Huang Ronghuai, Co-Dean of the Institute of Smart Education at Beijing Normal University, Head of the UNESCO Chair on Artificial Intelligence in Education, and Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Cyberlearning and Intelligent Technology.
During the meeting, participants discussed opportunities for collaborative research and publications, academic exchange of faculty and students, as well as cooperation through international summer and winter schools, conferences, and research projects.
IKBFU Rector Maxim Demin, welcoming the guests, presented the history of the university’s cooperation with China. Currently, IKBFU has active agreements with 12 educational institutions in the People’s Republic of China. Each year, several dozen students from both IKBFU and its partner universities participate in academic exchange programs. On the IKBFU side, these are primarily students majoring in Pedagogical Education, who study Chinese as a second foreign language. From the Chinese partner universities, participants are students learning Russian as a foreign language, who come to IKBFU for language practice.
Professor Huang Ronghuai spoke about Beijing Normal University, one of China’s leading and oldest universities with a strong humanities profile. It is part of several major national educational projects. The university comprises 25 faculties and has more than 24,000 students. Its key research areas include pedagogy, psychology, education sciences, liberal arts, social sciences, and fundamental sciences. Professor Huang noted that the signing of a cooperation agreement with IKBFU could become an important milestone in developing inter-university relations.
Professor Anna Budarina, Head of the Educational and Research Cluster Institute of Education and Humanities at IKBFU, presented proposals to strengthen cooperation in the field of humanities. The Chinese guests were invited to participate in the Pedagogical Congress, scheduled for April 2026. IKBFU also expressed readiness to invite Russian language lecturers from Beijing Normal University to take part in professional development courses.
| Our university is deeply interested in enhancing Russian-Chinese cooperation in the humanities — a topic of particular relevance during the Cross Year of Education in Russia and China, announced by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. We are especially interested in academic exchanges based on individually designed curricula, as well as reciprocal faculty visits, |
