IKBFU launched a new programme for educators from the University of Zimbabwe called “Promotion of the Russian language and education in African countries” at the end of October. The programme aims to enhance the professional skills of African educators in the field of Russian language and introduce them to different aspects of scientific and cultural life in Russia.
Olga Kim, Vice-rector for International Education and Youth Policy, and Tatyana Tsvigun, Advisor for Russian Language and Development of Humanitarian Education, welcomed the guests. Daria Gerber, Director of the International Office, gave a presentation on the University’s current progress, important international initiatives, and the upcoming Immanuel Kant anniversary — a significant event for the Baltic Federal University.
The initial meetings focused on Russia’s nature, culture, historical figures, and national symbols. Throughout the time spent with Kaliningrad professors, the guests noted that kindness, honesty and compassion are inherent to the national character of both countries, which allows two nations to easily find common ground.
The educators from Zimbabwe have previously studied in Russia during their Master’s programmes. Over the next two weeks, they will enjoy many cultural and educational activities on the Russian language and culture, as well as trips and workshops. The course involves classes not only on functional language, but also on Russian for business, science and education. As part of the cultural programme, the university staff will introduce their colleagues to the natural and architectural landmarks of the Kaliningrad region, give talks on Russian traditional crafts, and conduct a series of field trips to museums and theatres.
In 2023, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is implementing a project aimed at promoting Russian language and education in African countries. The D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology is designated as project organiser.
