On March 20, the Higher School of Linguistics traditionally celebrated French Language Day. The event brought together more than 80 lecturers and students studying French. Students of the “International Relations” program also took part. On this day, the last series of bright events dedicated to the holiday took place on the stage of the Maximum Hall. The students prepared presentations and told where French is spoken in the world, the activists revealed their musical and artistic talents, and also demonstrated erudition on the quiz "What do you know about Francophone countries?".
Congratulating the students on their professional holiday, Daria Gerber, Director of the international office of the IKBFU, noted that most people are used to perceiving French as the language of poetry and art, but today it is gaining special importance in the context of the development of diplomatic relations. Today, more than 300 million people speak French, with 60% coming from African countries.
I want to assure our French language students that you will be very, very sought-after specialists, and there is a high demand in the market for experts in this beautiful language today. Firstly, of course, this was due to the active growth of Russian business on the African continent. Therefore, we need translators, lawyers, cultural mediators, and political scientists who can take their rightful place at the negotiating table and help people navigate the legal field of French-speaking countries. Secondly, scientific diplomacy. Our university is now focusing on international cooperation with African countries. We have several signed agreements with universities in Mali, and we are working on cooperation with Senegal. Therefore, you are investing not only in your personal growth, but also creating a professional profile of a sought-after specialist both in Russia and in friendly countries by learning French today,

Elizaveta Shevchenko, Director of the Higher School of Linguistics, delivered a speech:
French students are linguists who know how to set ambitious goals for themselves. Not everyone can immerse themselves in French, this beautiful but very complex language. You can pronounce that mesmerizing "R" as if you've just taken a bite of a crunchy croissant, and in an unpleasant situation, you can quite calmly say "c'est la vie" with an aristocratic manner.
