As part of the International Kant Congress, the Valdai Discussion Club will host a meeting titled "Reason and Progress? A History of Civilizations Looking Towards the Future" on the 22nd of April.
The aim of the meeting is to examine the present and the near future through the lens of history. The discussion will revolve around the future of modern civilisations, the trajectories of historical development, contemporary values, the convergence of civilisations and the difference between them.
The organisers of the Valdai meeting believe that the Congress location — the Kaliningrad Region — is most suitable to discuss global and historical issues.
Among the international participants of the Discussion Club are: Richard Sakwa, of Russian and European politics at the University of Kent (United Kingdom); Radika Desai, Professor in the Department of Political Studies at the University of Manitoba (Canada); Xing Guangcheng, Academician of the Academy of Public Sciences (APS) of the PRC, Director of the APS Centre for Geography and History of Chinese Border Territories (China); and Glenn Diesen, Professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway (Norway).
From the Russian speakers are: Andrey Klemeshev, IKBFU President; Vitaly Naumkin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Dmitry Efremenko, Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Andrei Iserov, Deputy Dean for International Activitiesof the Faculty of Humanities of the HSE; Alexander Filippov, Head of the Centre for Fundamental Sociology of HSE; Andrei Bystritsky, Chairman of the Board of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club; Fyodor Lukyanov, Director for Scientific Work of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club; and Ivan Timofeev, Programme Director of the Valdai Discussion Club.
The guests of the International Kant Congress will take an active part in the Valdai meeting.
