IKBFU developers seek to optimise labour costs of the “World of Immanuel Kant” project without damaging the overall quality of the virtual world. For this reason, the creation of background characters was delegated to artificial intelligence. Drawing from descriptions found in historical sources, the team produced detailed prompts for the Midjourney neural network.
The historian Irina Belintseva reviewed and approved each resulting character.
Lina Bespalova, second year student:
Using AI image generators is unusual for me because I've only used text-based AI. Creating images is more engaging as you cannot really predict the result.
I believe AI will become a mass-use tool in the near future, so it's better to master it now.
Owing to particular items that AI had not encountered before, such as “justaucorps”, “tricorn hat”, “itinerant musician”, developers needed to “explain” the terms to AI using synonyms. As a result, after numerous attempts, the researchers identified an effective prompt formula for generating depictions of ordinary people of the 16th—17th century.
