The participants of the Winter School on Composite Materials for International Students, which opened at the IKBFU on February 9, 2026, visited the enterprises of the Kaliningrad region. The “Avtotor” automotive production and the “Ampertex” factory are the university's industrial partners and active participants in the transformation of educational programs.
The “Ampertex” factory implements a unique technology for heating electrically conductive threads based on polymers and nanoadditives. The Winter School participants visited the production halls, where the factory's manager, Pavel Pogrebnyakov, gave a tour and shared information about the history of the plant and it’s vision for the future of polymer production. During the “question-and-answer” session, the Winter School participants asked about the application of technologies in real-world scenarios, the specifics of producing electrically conductive threads, and the role of nanoadditives in improving the quality of products. For the Winter School participants, the discussion about nanomaterials in production was a continuation of their work in the SmartTextiles laboratory at the IKBFU, where they conducted laboratory experiments and studies on electrically conductive threads.
The Winter School participants also had the opportunity to take a technological tour of the “Avtotor” automotive production, which was led by the chief technologist, Timur Deberdeev. The participants were shown the entire technological line of automotive production and were introduced to the latest workshops for the production of automotive spare parts.
Christian Kvizera, Rwanda, 1st year master's student of the Tomsk Polytechnic University, direction “Materials Science and Materials Design”:
The visits to the enterprises were informative and professionally enriching. We saw how advanced materials are used in electric vehicles and “smart” textiles, and how this contributes to strengthening the link between science and industry.
Ridwan Muhammad, Nigeria, 2nd year master's student of the ITMO University, direction “Chemical Technologies”:
Participating in the Winter School on Composite Materials in Kaliningrad was a real discovery for me. I visited leading companies that transform raw materials into incredible innovations, which significantly expanded my professional horizons. Through practical laboratory sessions and project work, I gained valuable new knowledge and skills. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers for their exceptional hospitality.
The intensive educational course became a thematic track of the III International Winter School "Obninsk Tech" and is being implemented as part of the large-scale project of the “Rosatom” State Corporation for the development of international nuclear education. The initiative is supported by the Rosatom Project Office and the leading manufacturer of composites in Russia, JSC “UMATEX”.
The IKBFU platform brought together 15 talented foreign students from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, RUDN University, HSE University, ITMO University, TPU, MEI, and Ural Federal University. The project demonstrates impressive international reach, with representatives from 13 countries, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, Colombia, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Namibia, and Indonesia. The Winter School on Composite Materials will conclude on February 13, 2026.
