IKBFU students participated in an exchange programme at Chinese partner universities. For six months they practised the language, improved their calligraphy skills and experienced the culture firsthand, with some universities even offering papercutting and Tai chi classes. The academic work proved demanding and the professors set high standards. The students worked on pronunciation and listening skills, frequently took tests, gained new knowledge every day and quickly found use for it.

Learning Chinese is an exciting, fascinating, but also very challenging process. The students of IKBFU showed great interest in learning the language and culture of China, often gave feedback and studied hard, which left a lasting impression on their professors. |
Ignat Yelfimov, 5th year student, interned at the Northwest Normal University: |
During my 5 months in China, I met lots of people from different countries — some spoke only English, some only Chinese, but that's the point of foreign exchange programmes — no matter what language you speak, you can always find a way to understand each other. I made many new friends there, some of whom I would call some of the dearest people I know, and we stayed in touch even after my return to Russia. During the holidays we went to Beijing. I never dreamed of going to the capital before. I saw the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace. |
Margarita Shilina, a 3rd year student, interned at Huaihua University: |
The University organised a trip to Zhijiang. I was struck by the beauty of nature of the Hunan province: outside the bus window I saw hills, among which fairy tale-like small villages were nested. The tour guide told us about the Dong people and even sang a national song. When we finally arrived, we were immediately greeted by the beautiful Pagoda. Plus, the weather was sunny and everything seemed in favour of us enjoying the streets of this small but beautiful town. We walked around, tasted the local spicy fermented cabbage and went to a festival where we were introduced to the local traditions. We were also given a taste of the local traditional drinks. |
