On the 14th of March, Ksenia Zakharova and Valeria Dobrynina, 3rd year students of the Baltic Federal University, held a class on the Maslenitsa celebration in the Shandong University of Technology.
The class was attended by 72 Chinese students studying Russian at the Shandong University of Technology and the Zibo Vocational Institute. Ksenia and Valeria told the students about the history and traditions of the holiday, explained the significance behind the burning of the straw doll, shared crepe recipes and held a topical quiz.
The students noted how the holiday, being a spring celebration, resembles the Chinese New Year.
Some Chinese students also showcased their knowledge of Russian language and culture — recited poems, sang, solved riddles. One of the students performed a Viktor Tsoi song.
Wang Jinyan, Russian language teacher at the Zibo Vocational Institute: |
We are glad when such events take place here in China. Communicating with native speakers is very helpful for the students, because learning Russian is a hard process and our goal is to make it as stress-free as possible. |
