On the 25th of January, the International “Online Russian Dictation” contest was held for the 18th time at the IKBFU.
This year, the Dictation celebrated the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin and the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant.
The Contest Board, made up of leading university professors specialising in Russian philology, faced a truly challenging task. They examined and evaluated 2,600 entries from 85 countries. Among the participants were students and educators from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Belarus, for whom Russian is often a second native language, as well as schoolchildren and students from Poland, Sweden, Japan, Ethiopia, China, Mexico and Brazil, who were just making their first but very confident steps in learning Russian.
After a month of meticulous work by the Board, IKBFU announces the list of winners. The Russian language proficiency level of the Dictation participants was truly impressive. 16 winners, 39 prize-winners and 75 awardees were selected. See the full list.

We thank each and every participant of the Dictation for their interest in Russian language, culture and literature. Some participated for the first time, and for some writing the Dictation has become a welcome annual tradition. It is extremely important for us that the Dictation is not simply breaking records in terms of the number of participants, but is also becoming a full-fledged event. We received dozens or even hundreds of entries from some universities and schools. For this, as well as for their invaluable contribution to the promotion of the Russian language, we thank the professors and teachers whose students took part. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution of Russian Houses (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the partner universities of the Baltic Federal University, who year after year support the project. |
Soon all winners of the Dictation will receive commemorative prizes, and prize-winners of the competition will have the opportunity to take one of the IKBFU online educational courses free of charge on the Akademika partner educational platform.
Recently, an online Dictation text review has taken place. Olga Vertinskaya, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Institute of Education and the Humanities, who has been the face and voice of the Dictation for many years, helped the participants understand all the subtleties of the text, as well as work on their mistakes.

It was an honour to participate in the Dictation. I love the idea because it gives people from all over the world a chance to share their knowledge of the Russian language and culture on an international level. It was also a great way to get to know the university. I wish you even better success next year! I hope to participate again next year. |
Maryam Pirnazarova, 15 years old, Tajikistan, Dushanbe, Y. A. Gagarin School, B2-C1 Young Learners winner: |
It was very exciting to write the Dictation, while also competing with other participants from all over the world. I learnt a lot about the history of Kaliningrad and Russian culture. During the Great Patriotic War my great-grandfather, Yusupov Avaz, reached Koenigsberg (now Kaliningrad), where he was wounded. He celebrated the victory there. Therefore, a part of my soul is linked to this city. I am very proud that I took part in the Dictation about such a marvellous city as Kaliningrad. |
