IKBFU hosted the 18th annual Russian Dictation contest on January 25, with this year’s event being dedicated to two significant dates at once: the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin and the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant.
The online contest attracted a record-breaking number of participants from 84 countries, ranging from China to Mexico, totaling 2600 attendees.
IKBFU Rector Alexander Fedorov gave the opening speech.

The Dictation is becoming a worldwide celebration of the Russian language. The remote format of the contest allowed Russian language and culture enthusiasts from all over the world to participate, including those who are taking their first steps in learning the language. |
Olga Kim, Vice-Rector for International Education and Youth Policy:

The geographical reach of our event is rapidly expanding. We will be able to make final conclusions only after checking all the received works. There were many participants of all ages from China, Uzbekistan, Poland, Bulgaria, Colombia, Tajikistan and India. Many teachers wrote the dictation together with their students, and some students encouraged their family members to participate. |
The organisers emphasised the extensive preparation that goes into the event, particularly the development of the text and solving technological challenges.
Alexei Chernyakov, Associate Professor at the Institute of Education and Humanities, gave a mini-lecture. The Dictation’s unique text, designed for two levels of complexity, was written by Alexey Kruglov, a contemporary researcher of Immanuel Kant’s philosophy and professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities. The text was read by Olga Vertinskaya, Associate Professor at IKBFU.
Tursun Subanov, Director of the Department of External Relations and Investments of Osh State Pedagogical University from Kyrgyzstan, expressed his delight in feeling like a “young student once again” while tackling the dictation.
Karine Arakelyan, a Russian language and literature teacher from Georgia, remarked on her longstanding tradition of participating in the event, adding that she and her mother cherish attending IKBFU-organised events related to Kant and Kaliningrad.
The Russian Dictation, initiated by IKBFU in 2006, has become a cherished University tradition. The project is implemented with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo, Russian Centres of Science and Culture, and partner universities.
